New Jersey Governor Murphy Mandates Masks Outdoors when Social Distancing is Not Possible in Response to Rising Covid-19 Cases
Today, New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy is signing an executive order which mandates people in NJ to wear masks outside in public when it is difficult to stay six feet away from others. Governor Murphy explained, “They’ve been strongly recommended out-of-doors. We’re gonna turn that up a notch today and say, We’re gonna ask you: If you can’t socially distance, it’s gonna be required.”
This decision comes at a time of nationwide spikes and NJ’s rising rate of transmission. The rate of transmission is over one again in the state, meaning for each newly infected person, the virus is being passed along to at least one other person. Governor Murphy elaborated, “We have to take this step, particularly given the hotspots we’re seeing elsewhere in the country. We’ve gone through hell in New Jersey. We’ve lost over 13,000 people. We’ve brought our numbers way down. We can’t go through that hell again.”
